| Admissions Requirements to the BHS – Occupational Therapy Program |
Selection into the BHS- Occupational Therapy track is competitive. All applicants must:
- Meet the entrance requirements for Florida International University. Refer to the University Core Curriculum (UCC) requirements in the University Undergraduate Catalog. Read the UCC carefully. Any person with an earned AA from a Florida Public University or College or a baccalaureate degree from an accredited university has met the UCC requirements. It is the student's responsibility to meet these requirements PRIOR to entering the BHS-OT track degree.
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.
- Applicants who have taken courses over 7 years ago may request that their earlier coursework be disregarded in computation of their GPA. However, if a student elects to have this coursework disregarded, then any prerequisites taken during that period will also be disregarded. Coursework cannot be selectively disregarded (that is, you can not ask for 1 or 2 courses to be disregarded).
- Complete the required prerequisite courses with a “C” grade or better. All prerequisites must be completed PRIOR to beginning FALL coursework as a Bachelor of Health Sciences-OT Track student. Proof of completion must be submitted to the OT Department. The following course numbers refer to the course numbering system of the state of Florida only. Courses taken outside of Florida or at private schools should be approved by an FIU occupational therapy department advisor.
- Biology with lab: (4 credits)
- Physiology: (3-4 credits) or Anatomy/Physiology I & II (6-8 credits) BSC 2085/2085L & BSC 2086/2086L
* Students who have completed Anatomy/Physiology I & II with a lab have met the prerequisites for Biology with Lab and Physiology
- PHY 2053 Physics with lab (4 credits) or CHM X033 Chemistry with lab (4 credits) or CHM X045 Chemistry with lab (4 credits)
- Statistics: STA 2122 or STA 3145 (3 credits)
- General Psychology: PSY 2012 (3 credits)
- Human Growth & Development: DEP 2000 (3 credits)
- SYG 1000 Sociology (3 credits) or ANT 2401 Anthropology
- Additional Psychology course (3 credits):
Theories of Personality or Abnormal Psychology are recommended. Personal Adjustment or Personal Effectiveness courses are NOT acceptable.
It is highly recommended that applicants have recently taken (within past 5 years) biology, human growth and development, and the psychology courses.

| Admission Requirements to the Professional Masters: |
The Professional Master's program in occupational therapy admits students in the fall of each academic year.
To be admitted to the Professional Master's degree program students must:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in a field other than occupational therapy from an accredited institution.
- Have a minimum of 3.0 GPA average based on a 4.0 scale in upper division courses of the bachelor’s degree. Admission is competitive for the professional master's program.
- Apply and be admitted to the FIU graduate school. (http://gradschool.fiu.edu/)
- Students must also submit a separate application to the Occupational Therapy Department.
- Provide a resume and a summary statement of professional and educational goals to the OT department.
- Provide 3 letters of reference from professional or educational sources to the Occupational Therapy department.
- International students are accepted subject to space and fiscal limitations. Students must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an institution recognized in their own country as preparing students for graduate level study; academic eligibility for further study in their own country; demonstrated proficiency in the English language by a minimum score of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). International students must contact the International Student and Scholar Services department at http://www.fiu.edu/~isss/

Theories of Personality (Not personal Adjustment)
Human Growth & Development
Biology with Lab
Human Physiology
Neuroscience (3000 level or higher) *(Can be taken while in the OT program)

Selection Procedure
Students are accepted into the program based on the strength of their academic preparation, specifically, grade point average. However, other application materials and references are also considered. Transcripts are reviewed for the type of courses taken, total number of credit hours attempted/earned per semester, and number of repeats/ withdrawals.
Students accepted into the program must notify the Department within 10 days of receipt of the acceptance letter to FIU’s Professional Master's Occupational Therapy program. Twenty students may be admitted each semester. A waiting list of students is also identified. Persons whose applications are received late or whose names are on the waiting list are admitted as space becomes available. Students on the waiting list who are not admitted for a particular term must reapply for a subsequent term.

| Admission Requirement to the Graduate Certificate in Gerontology |
Candidates must be either a Registered Occupational Therapist, a student admitted to one of the MS OT programs or a student admitted to the Bachelor of Science OT track program. Specific information can be found on the Center on Aging website.

To be fully admitted to the online master's degree program students must:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and have successfully completed an accredited curriculum in occupational therapy.
- Have a 3.0 GPA in upper division courses.
- Have completed an undergraduate statistics course.
- Receive approval from the Graduate Admissions Office and the OT departmental graduate admissions committee.
- International students must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in occupational therapy from an institution recognized by FIU. A minimum score of 550 on the Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) is also required. International students MUST contact the International Student and Scholar Services (http://www.fiu.edu/~isss) for further information.
Students can take up to 12 credits in the program before being officially admitted. To do this, you must use the non-degree seeking admission form
